EULEX Reviews Security Measures Ahead of September 16 Hague Verdict

EULEX says it is continuously reviewing its operational security measures in Kosovo ahead of September 16, when a verdict is expected in the Hague case involving former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.

The European Union Rule of Law Mission said security management is part of its regular responsibilities and that its operational measures are adjusted as needed according to developments on the ground.

Regarding the possibility of increased engagement on September 16, EULEX said it is working closely with the Kosovo Police and NATO-led KFOR as part of Kosovo’s three-tier security response mechanism.

The mission added that, if requested and deemed necessary, its Formed Police Unit is prepared to serve as the second responder, supporting efforts to maintain public order and security.

EULEX emphasized that its role is coordinated with Kosovo Police and KFOR, with each institution operating within its respective responsibilities.

Ahead of the verdict, the EU mission also called for calm across Kosovo, stressing that the safety and protection of all communities remain its highest priority.

“Our message to all communities in Kosovo is that their safety and protection are our first priorities,” EULEX said.
