The mother of late Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis has made her first public statement following her son’s death, calling for justice and a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his passing.
Cleo Mazonaki delivered a brief but deeply emotional message.
“I am asking for justice for the memory of my child, my beloved Giorgos,” she said.
The 54-year-old singer died on September 9 while undergoing plasmapheresis treatment at a private clinic in the Kolonaki area of Athens.
His death is now the subject of a criminal investigation. Two doctors have been named in the proceedings and, according to reports, are facing allegations of possible intentional homicide through omission.
Both doctors deny the allegations, maintaining that they neither took nor failed to take any action that contributed to the singer’s death. They have also reportedly raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Mazonakis’ transfer by emergency medical services.
Investigators are examining the final minutes of his treatment at the clinic, including alleged warnings displayed by the plasmapheresis equipment, the timing of the emergency call and how the medical procedure was carried out.
The investigation is also examining other actions that authorities believe may have affected the collection and preservation of evidence following the incident. The doctors have rejected claims that they ignored critical warnings from the medical equipment.
Meanwhile, Mazonakis’ family continues to seek answers about what happened during the final hours of the singer’s life.
