Prince Harry Considering Documentary to Mark 30th Anniversary of Princess Diana’s Death

Prince Harry is exploring several projects to mark the 30th anniversary of his mother Princess Diana’s death, including the possibility of a new documentary.

The Duke of Sussex is considering how best to honor Diana’s legacy ahead of the anniversary on August 31, 2027, and has reportedly been reaching out to family members and friends who were close to his late mother as part of the preparations.

A documentary is among the ideas being considered, although the project has not been officially confirmed.

Harry was 12 and his older brother, Prince William, was 15 when Diana died at the age of 36 in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.

The brothers previously appeared together in the 2017 documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, which marked the 20th anniversary of her death. In the film, they spoke openly about their memories of Diana and the impact her death had on their lives. Their relationship has become significantly strained in the years since.

The possibility of a new project comes as Diana’s life and legacy once again attract public attention. Her younger brother, Charles Spencer, has also reflected on his sister in his recent memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, which offers a personal account of their relationship and the challenges she faced.

Speaking from the Spencer family’s Althorp estate, where Diana is buried, Charles Spencer said he still feels his sister’s presence today.

“There are times when I feel Diana is with me in difficult situations,” he said, recalling how he continues to wear a pair of cufflinks she gave him in the late 1980s as a reminder of her.

Harry has also spoken openly over the years about the importance of preserving his mother’s memory. In his 2023 memoir, Spare, he detailed the aftermath of Diana’s death and the events surrounding her funeral, including the decision for him and William to walk behind their mother’s coffin.

He recalled the emotional toll of Diana’s burial at Althorp and described struggling to contain his emotions as her coffin was lowered into the ground.

Harry has repeatedly expressed his hope that his work honors his mother’s legacy. In a 2022 interview, he said he believed Diana would be proud of the way he continues to help others.

“I hope and sincerely believe that everything I do makes her proud,” Harry said, adding that he continues to carry the values and compassion he learned from his mother into his own life.
