OpenAI has announced that its generative artificial intelligence assistant, ChatGPT, is used by more than 1.2 billion people every week.
The figure was highlighted during DevDay 2026, the company’s annual developer conference in San Francisco. OpenAI also said its products now reach 2.5 million businesses, underscoring the growing importance of enterprise use to the company’s expansion.
During the event, OpenAI also introduced GPT-6.1 Sol, a major upgrade to GPT-6 Sol. The company says the model delivers performance approaching GPT-6 Astra while costing one-fifth of Astra’s standard input and output token prices. It is designed to provide strong performance in agentic coding, computer use and professional work.
GPT-6.1 Sol sits below GPT-6 Astra, which OpenAI had previously introduced as its most capable model. OpenAI says Sol is intended to make advanced AI capabilities more accessible at a lower cost while maintaining strong performance.
OpenAI also said that GPT-6.1 Sol is available to API users as well as customers on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans.
