Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer has announced his separation from his wife, Alina.
Sommer shared a lengthy statement on his social media accounts, a day after securing a victory at San Siro against Inter Milan.
He revealed that he and Alina had decided to end their seven-year marriage while maintaining mutual respect.
“After seven years of marriage, Alina and I decided to separate at the beginning of this year. We made this decision after careful consideration and by mutual agreement. We look back on the time we spent together with respect and gratitude. Our two daughters will always unite us.
“Their happiness and well-being remain our top priority. Out of respect for our family, we kindly ask for your understanding that we will not be answering any further questions about our separation. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and ask that you respect our privacy during this time,” Sommer wrote.
