Around 600,000 people in Ukraine have been left without electricity following overnight Russian missile and drone attacks that caused casualties and damaged infrastructure. In Kyiv, at least three people were killed and 21 others injured.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its large-scale strikes targeted communications and energy facilities in the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions, which Moscow claims are used by the Ukrainian military.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia launched 39 missiles and 128 drones overnight.
The attacks come amid growing calls for both sides to refrain from striking energy infrastructure.
A few days earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an energy ceasefire, urging both sides not to violate the arrangement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stated that Ukraine is prepared to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries and other energy facilities, while Russia continues its strikes.
