Sean “Diddy” Combs has suffered another legal setback. A court has ordered him to pay NBCUniversal nearly $500,000 in legal fees after the company successfully defended itself against a lawsuit he had filed.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the 56-year-old Combs has been ordered to pay $477,700.50 in legal costs.
NBCUniversal had initially sought nearly $1 million — specifically, $990,292 — but the court reduced the amount after determining that some of the costs were excessive. At the same time, the court found that the attorneys’ hourly rates were reasonable given their experience.
Combs’ representative, Juda Engelmayer, said the court’s decision tells “only half the story,” pointing out that while NBCUniversal had sought nearly $1 million, the court ultimately reduced the amount by more than $512,000.
Engelmayer stressed that the court found “significant portions” of NBCUniversal’s bill to be excessive and unreasonable.
The dispute stems from the documentary Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy. Combs filed a $100 million lawsuit against NBCUniversal and production company Ample over the film in February 2025.
In the lawsuit, he claimed that the documentary caused “serious reputational and economic harm” and portrayed him as someone who had committed a series of serious crimes. Meanwhile, a representative for Combs also criticized the law firm Sher Tremonte, which had previously represented him in a separate $50 million dispute. The firm withdrew from that case following a disagreement over unpaid legal fees.
Attorney Michael Tremonte had previously stated that Combs had failed to pay a “substantial amount” in legal fees and had accumulated significant payment arrears.
Combs is currently serving a 50-month prison sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey after being found guilty on two counts related to transporting individuals for purposes of prostitution.
His release is currently scheduled for January 21, 2028.
