Michael Jackson’s iconic black-and-red leather jacket from the legendary “Thriller” music video is expected to fetch more than $10 million at an upcoming auction in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The jacket, one of the most recognizable pieces of clothing in music history, was previously sold at auction in 2011 for $1.8 million. Its estimated value has now increased dramatically, with the iconic piece expected to attract significant interest from collectors around the world.
The jacket was worn by Jackson in the groundbreaking 1983 “Thriller” music video, which became a defining moment in pop culture and helped cement his status as the “King of Pop.”
The upcoming auction will take place on December 7 in Abu Dhabi as part of a special Michael Jackson-themed sale featuring more than 100 items connected to the singer’s career and legacy. Other highlights include the rhinestone glove Jackson wore during his historic Motown 25 performance, as well as shoes associated with the “Thriller” video and his famous Moonwalk performance.
The renewed interest in Jackson’s legacy has also been fueled by the recent biographical film “Michael,” further highlighting the enduring global fascination with the late music icon.
Michael Jackson died in June 2009 at the age of 50, but his influence on music, fashion and popular culture continues to this day. If the jacket reaches its projected price, it could set a new record for one of the most valuable pieces of music memorabilia ever sold at auction.
