German discount retailer KiK, known for its low prices and extensive presence across Europe, is preparing to significantly reduce the size of its store network.
The company plans to close up to 150 locations in Germany this year while opening only around 15 new stores, as part of a broader restructuring strategy.
Across Europe, KiK is expected to close approximately 300 stores while opening around 75 new locations. The plans have raised concerns among employees and customers in several countries where the retailer has a strong presence.
Company management insists that the move should not be viewed as a business crisis. Instead, it describes the closures as a necessary adjustment following years of rapid and aggressive expansion.
The restructuring is intended to streamline the retailer’s network and focus resources on locations considered more sustainable in the long term.
Despite the company’s reassurances, the planned closures have created uncertainty among workers and shoppers as KiK begins reshaping its European retail footprint.
