U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei as tensions continue between the artificial intelligence company and the U.S. government.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump argued that the United States is leading the world in artificial intelligence and defended his administration’s approach to regulating the rapidly growing industry.
Trump said his administration has taken steps to prevent AI companies from engaging in activities that could be harmful or potentially dangerous. At the same time, he warned against measures that could undermine the country’s technological advantage, using the expression “Don’t kill the golden goose.”
The remarks come amid a legal dispute between Anthropic and the U.S. Department of Defense.
The Pentagon previously designated Anthropic as a “supply chain risk” after the company refused to allow its AI models to be used for certain purposes, including surveillance and autonomous weapons.
Anthropic challenged the decision in federal court, arguing that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had exceeded his authority.
In August, a federal judge sided with Anthropic, ruling that the Defense Department’s decision was unlawful and unsupported.
The dispute highlights the growing tensions between the U.S. government and major AI companies over how advanced artificial intelligence should be used for national security, surveillance and military applications.
