Russia Strikes Near Ukraine-Poland Border as Long-Range Attacks Intensify

Russia has struck a truck near Ukraine’s border with Poland, according to Polish and Ukrainian officials, in the latest attack to hit an area close to NATO territory as Moscow and Kyiv intensify long-range strikes in an effort to shift the course of the war.

Polish border authorities said the Dorohusk-Yahodyn crossing was temporarily closed following the strike, which occurred around 800 meters from Polish territory. Operations at the crossing have since resumed.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said the attack targeted infrastructure used to transport military cargo from Europe into western Ukraine. Kyiv relies heavily on trade routes and weapons deliveries passing through its borders with Poland, Romania and Moldova.

In recent weeks, Russia has increasingly targeted Ukrainian border infrastructure connecting the country with its Western allies. The attacks come amid a broader campaign by both sides to weaken each other’s economic and logistical infrastructure as the war continues.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping had offered to help mediate a potential peace agreement. Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently in India for the BRICS summit.

Modi previously told Putin that the war should come to an end, joining a growing number of leaders from countries with traditionally strong ties to Moscow who have called for peace.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has also publicly urged an end to the fighting along the current front line, which has remained largely unchanged this year.

Russia has rejected such a scenario, insisting that Ukraine withdraw and leave the industrial eastern Donbas region under Moscow’s control — a demand Kyiv has repeatedly said it will never accept.

Brazil and China, both founding members of BRICS, have also called for peace negotiations to resume.
