Celine Dion made an emotional return to the stage in Paris, performing live after spending several years battling a serious neurological condition.
The singer was overcome with emotion as she appeared before a crowd of 30,000 fans on Saturday night, marking the beginning of a five-week run of shows in the French capital.
Dressed in an elegant strapless black gown, Dion began wiping away tears as soon as she saw the audience.
“I promised myself I wouldn’t cry, but apparently I don’t keep my promises,” she told the crowd. “I’m so happy to see you all. I missed you. I’m going to sing for you without crying.”
The performances carry particular significance for the 58-year-old star, as they mark her first series of concerts since she was forced to cancel the remainder of her Courage World Tour in 2023 due to health complications.
Dion has been battling Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder that can cause severe muscle stiffness and painful spasms. Symptoms may also include difficulty walking, double vision and speech problems.
There is currently no cure for SPS, although treatments can help manage symptoms and potentially slow the condition’s progression.
Her return to the stage marks a major milestone for the singer following years of health challenges that kept her away from regular live performances.
