A highly unusual incident in Bangkok has resulted in the arrest of a 51-year-old man after surveillance footage allegedly showed him behaving inappropriately with a koi fish.
The man, identified as Sutthichai Boonlert, was reportedly caught on security cameras entering a neighbor’s ornamental fish pond and removing one of the koi.
The fish belonged to his neighbor, Bobby Anong, who reportedly became aware of what had happened after footage from the property’s surveillance system was reviewed.
During questioning, police said Boonlert initially claimed that he had entered the pond simply to wash himself. He reportedly told investigators that the situation escalated after the fish came close to him.
Authorities are now looking into the circumstances of the incident and the treatment of the animal. The case could lead to charges depending on the findings of the investigation.
Police have also reportedly mentioned allegations of similar inappropriate conduct involving animals in the past. Those claims, however, remain allegations and have not been independently established.
The bizarre case has attracted attention online due to the unusual circumstances and the footage that reportedly documented the incident.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case and determine what legal action may be taken against the 51-year-old.
