Hysni Gucati, head of the Organization of War Veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army (OVL-UÇK), has expressed optimism ahead of tomorrow’s verdict in the Hague trial involving former KLA leaders.
Gucati said he hopes the former KLA leaders will be acquitted and that the judicial process will not proceed to an appeal. He stressed that he would not like to see the case enter another stage of legal proceedings.
“I hope I never have to come to The Hague again. I hope this will be my final visit here for this matter,” Gucati said during an interview.
With less than 24 hours remaining until the verdict is announced, Gucati said he believes Kosovo will have reason to celebrate tomorrow.
“I believe they will be released tomorrow. I have that hope, I believe it, and I think that is what will happen, because there are no facts or arguments. All the accusations have been unfounded,” he said.
However, Gucati warned that if the verdict results in convictions, the OVL-UÇK would take to the streets to protest.
The verdict is expected to mark a major moment in the long-running proceedings at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
