Sali Berisha: “Tomorrow, Kosovo’s Heroes Will Return With Their Heads Held High”

Albania’s Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has reacted to the verdict expected to be delivered by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague against Kosovo’s former political and KLA leaders.

In a social media post, Berisha described the day of the verdict as a “special” one and said he believes the former Kosovo leaders should be acquitted.

“For every Albanian, there can be only one verdict for Kosovo’s former political leaders: their acquittal, and nothing but their acquittal,” Berisha wrote.

He claimed that throughout the trial, not “a single piece of evidence” supporting the charges against the defendants had been made public.

Berisha expressed his hope that the former Kosovo leaders would return “innocent as they are, with their heads held high, as heroes of Kosovo’s liberation.”

He also rejected any threats against Kosovo in the event of an unfavorable verdict for the former KLA leaders.

“Threats against Kosovo, its order, peace and security in the event of a ruling different from what is expected from The Hague are absolutely unacceptable, absurd and condemnable,” Berisha said.

He added that, in his view, Kosovo should not bear any responsibility for the consequences of what he considers to be an unjust judicial decision.
