After 28 years of living and working in Croatia, former footballer Xhevdet Muriqi has returned to Kosovo, where he now lives.
Muriqi recently met with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who shared details of the meeting in a statement.
Kurti said he welcomed Muriqi to his office and described him as a member of Prishtina’s “golden generation” of the 1980s.
“Yesterday, I welcomed Xhevdet Muriqi to my office, a footballer from Prishtina’s golden generation of the 1980s. After 28 years of living and working in Croatia and another 12 years in Germany, Xhevdet Muriqi returned last year to live in Kosovo,” Kurti said.
According to Kurti, their conversation brought back memories of the matches and emotions of that era, including packed stadiums, passionate supporters and goals that remain memorable to this day.
They also discussed Muriqi’s brother, Fadil Muriqi, who lives in Australia, as well as former teammates and football figures including Fadil Vokrri, Kujtim Shala and coach Ćiro Blažević.
“FC Prishtina brought us together in the stadium, but also around the radio and television. The club’s victories and successes, as well as its setbacks and defeats, were felt and experienced as our own. It was football, but it was also pride,” Kurti said.
The conversation also turned to the present, with the two discussing Kosovo’s recent performances, the development of the national team and the upcoming matches scheduled for November.
