The father of one of the miners trapped deep underground at the Trepça mine waited anxiously for his son to be brought back to safety.
Speaking about his son, who has worked as a miner for six years, the father expressed his deep concern over his situation, saying that his son had gone a year without receiving his salary or other payments.
The Independent Trade Union of Trepça Miners has since responded to the situation, emphasizing the emotional toll the incident is taking on the miners’ families.
“Parents and families do not deserve this kind of worry. They have sacrificed their entire lives for their children, and we do not owe them another burden of sorrow and fear,” the union said.
“This is just one of many parents and family members who are experiencing this situation with pain and anxiety.”
“Behind every miner who goes underground is a family anxiously waiting for him to return home. Our parents deserve to sleep peacefully, not live with the fear of what might happen to their son.”
The union also called for miners to be treated with greater respect and dignity, stressing that the consequences of difficult working conditions extend beyond the workers themselves.
“We deserve to be treated better, with respect and dignity, because behind us there are not only miners, but also our families who suffer alongside us,” the union said.
