Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced from Luxembourg that the country will close another chapter in its negotiations for membership in the European Union today.
The Albanian leader expressed optimism about the progress of the process, emphasizing that the goal is to close as many chapters as possible by the end of this year.
Speaking to the media, Rama said Albania’s progress toward EU membership was unstoppable. He also revealed that he had held several meetings that, according to him, were encouraging regarding the next steps in the accession process.
“We have returned to close another chapter and reaffirm that progress toward our historic objective is unstoppable. Meanwhile, I have just held several encouraging meetings regarding what comes next. Our plans for this year are ambitious,” the prime minister said.
Rama stressed that the Albanian government intends to make further progress in the negotiations and that the Albanian side will meet the established deadlines.
“We aim to close even more chapters, and I am absolutely convinced that, as far as our side is concerned, we will be fully on schedule at every step. I would not give a figure for how many chapters will be closed, but today we will close another chapter, bringing the total to four. At least twice as many remain, which is expected to be the figure for this year, at least, but we shall see,” Rama concluded.
