Air Raid Sirens Sound in Riyadh as Explosions Reported in Saudi Capital

Residents of Riyadh were later given the all-clear after air raid sirens sounded and explosions were reported in the Saudi capital.

The incident marked the first time air raid warnings had been activated in Riyadh since the Houthis intensified attacks against Saudi Arabia and announced a maritime embargo on the country in July.

Saudi Civil Defense issued warnings for Riyadh and several other regions late Friday night and into Saturday morning as tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthis continued to escalate.

The latest alerts come amid a series of drone and missile attacks targeting Saudi oil facilities.

Recent strikes reportedly caused fires and temporarily disrupted operations at some facilities, adding to concerns over the security of the kingdom’s energy infrastructure as hostilities continue.
