Nasim Haradinaj has shared details of his first encounters with the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) who are being held in The Hague, as part of a special documentary covering developments at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers from 2020 to the present.
Haradinaj recalled that security measures were particularly strict during the early period, partly due to restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the situation gradually changed, however, he said they were eventually allowed to spend more time together.
He said the first contact with Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi came through a window while they were being held in the facility.
Haradinaj recalled that he and others would greet the former KLA leaders despite being warned by officials. He also said they sometimes sang songs dedicated to the KLA and unity, even though they knew they could be heard.
According to his account, these early encounters became some of the first opportunities for them to communicate directly with the former KLA officials following the indictments.
