The United Kingdom will provide £100 million, approximately €116 million, to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses ahead of the winter months. The new military aid package will include Patriot missiles, air-defense interceptors, heavy artillery ammunition and drones.
The British Ministry of Defence said the equipment will be supplied through a NATO-backed program designed to maintain a steady flow of military support to Ukraine. Deliveries are expected before winter, with the weapons intended to protect critical infrastructure, civilians and Ukrainian forces from Russian attacks.
Ukraine relies heavily on U.S.-made Patriot systems to defend its airspace, particularly against Russian ballistic missiles. Kyiv, however, has reported shortages of Patriot interceptors amid growing international demand for the systems.
Britain has been one of Ukraine’s leading supporters since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. London has committed around £25 billion in military and non-military assistance to Kyiv.
The UK has also agreed to provide Ukraine with technical information related to components of the long-range SCALP missile, the French-produced counterpart of Britain’s Storm Shadow. The move is expected to help Ukraine establish local missile assembly capabilities.
Britain’s new Defence Secretary, Wes Streeting, is also set to co-chair his first meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which brings together around 50 countries providing military equipment and other support to Kyiv.
Streeting said his first visit to Kyiv underscored the importance of supporting Ukraine through the winter. He accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of preparing to “weaponize winter” by continuing attacks on civilian targets and energy infrastructure.
The latest package is aimed at helping Ukraine withstand further Russian strikes during the colder months while protecting civilians and vital infrastructure. Britain has reiterated that its military and financial support for Kyiv will continue.
