Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he would travel to Miami if Russian President Vladimir Putin attends the G20 leaders’ summit scheduled for December.
Asked on Friday whether he would be willing to attend if Putin were present, Zelensky responded enthusiastically.
“Yes, of course. We have to go. We have to meet, talk and make decisions,” he said.
Zelensky stressed that any potential face-to-face meeting should focus on concrete outcomes rather than rhetoric.
“It’s not about words. What I tell him or what he wants to tell me doesn’t matter. What matters are the results. That’s it,” he said.
Zelensky and Putin have not met in person since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The Kremlin, meanwhile, has yet to confirm whether Putin will travel to Miami for the summit. The Russian leader has not attended a G20 summit in person since 2019.
Zelensky also discussed agreements signed on Thursday with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, including a declaration establishing a 100-year partnership between Ukraine and Canada.
He described the agreement as broad and historic, covering areas including security, financing, energy, veterans’ policy, culture, bilateral relations and humanitarian issues.
“It is a comprehensive decision, a truly historic one, and I am glad that we have reached it,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president also announced a cooperation agreement with Carney on drone production involving several Ukrainian companies.
